Embracing Purpose
A Journey from Maxillofacial Nurse to Beauty Salon Owner as the proud owner of Brow Envy Plymouth, Mel’s journey to creating a haven for beauty and healing is deeply rooted in her compassionate nature and commitment to serving others.
With a background as a maxillofacial nurse at Derriford Hospital, specialising in head and neck cancer for a decade, Mel’s expertise and empathy have been invaluable assets in her transition to the beauty industry. Mel’s dedication to holistic care led her to pursue additional training as a Complementary Therapist for Macmillan, where she provided reiki and reflexology to patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Witnessing firsthand the profound impact of these therapies in alleviating symptoms and improving well-being, Mel’s passion for holistic healing was ignited. Driven by her desire to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients, Mel established Brow Envy Plymouth, a sanctuary where beauty meets compassion. Understanding the unique needs of those affected by cancer, Mel offers specialised services such as medical areola 3D nipple tattooing for mastectomy patients, providing a sense of restoration and empowerment.
But Mel’s journey doesn’t stop there. Inspired by her experiences and a relentless pursuit of knowledge, Mel and her team are embarking on a new chapter of learning and growth. In May, they will undergo training with the Made for Life Foundation, an organisation dedicated to offering cancer touch therapies.
The Made for Life Foundation’s mission resonates deeply with Mel’s vision, as they provide support and healing to individuals at every stage of their cancer journey. Through their touch therapies, individuals can find solace and rejuvenation, reconnecting with nature and inner stillness amidst the chaos of treatment and recovery. For Mel and her team, this upcoming training represents more than just a professional development opportunity—it’s a chance to deepen their impact and expand their ability to serve those in need. With each new skill learned and each client touched, Mel’s commitment to her purpose grows stronger. As Mel reflects on her journey, she is reminded of the profound privilege and responsibility that comes with caring for others. From her days as a maxillofacial nurse to her role as a beauty salon owner, Mel’s mission remains unchanged: to bring healing, hope, and beauty to all those she has the honour of serving.
